Foreword
The food we eat is very important for our health and wellbeing. Food is part of our lives, but each person’s food choices can be very different.
This cookbook recognises the cost of healthy eating is an important issue for us all and provides clear and easy to follow recipes which supports the philosophy of affordable good nutrition. It is a wonderful and valuable resource for individuals and families in the home and for those developing home management educational programmes in the community.
101 Square Meals was originally developed in Ireland by Limerick Money Advice and Budgeting Service and Health Promotion (Health Service Executive) with support from PAUL Partnership, Limerick Vocational Education Committee (VEC) and the National Adult Literacy Agency. It was adapted for Northern Ireland in collaboration with the Public Health Agency and the Western Health and Social Care Trust Community Food and Nutrition Team and slow cooker recipes were added in collaboration with the Public Health Dieticians Group Northern Ireland.
The recipes are based on healthy eating advice from the Healthy Food for Life Guidelines in Ireland and the Eatwell Guide in Northern Ireland. They are easy to follow and contain shopping tips, food safety messages, menu planning advice and even some treats and snacks for special occasions.
Happy and healthy cooking to you and your families.
